How many people contributed to the release who can no longer contribute?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That was the question posed by Jeff Chandler on October 18th. Matt&#8217;s response?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;That\u2019s a good question. You used to be a journalist, you should count. My guess: 2 or 3, definitely under 10, out of 600+. Let&#8217;s take a moment to thank 11 people from that list (i.e. definitely more than 10) who have since paused their contributions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/rarst\/\">Andrey \u201cRarst\u201d Savchenko<\/a>, core component maintainer for Date\/Time, <a href=\"https:\/\/xcancel.com\/Rarst\/status\/1844245533004792129\">announced<\/a> he has stopped contributions &#8220;given recent WordPress actions against community and me personally.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>2. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/afragen\/\">Andy Fragen<\/a>, core committer, has <a href=\"https:\/\/xcancel.com\/andyfragen\/status\/1850215170548625832\">taken a hiatus<\/a> due to recent events.<\/li>\n<li>3. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/bgardner\/\">Brian Gardner<\/a>, core contributor, is blocked from contributing to future releases as he works for WP Engine.<\/li>\n<li>4. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/colorful-tones\/\">Damon Cook<\/a>, Editor Triage lead for 6.7, another WP Engine employee blocked from further contributions.<\/li>\n<li>5. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/geriux\/\">Gerardo Pacheco<\/a>, Gutenberg contributor.<\/li>\n<li>6. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/chanthaboune\/\">Josepha Haden Chomphosy<\/a>, the project&#8217;s executive director, announced she was <a href=\"https:\/\/josepha.blog\/2024\/10\/04\/thank-you-wordpress\/\">stepping down<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>7. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/noisysocks\/\">Robert Anderson<\/a>, Editor Tech lead for 6.7, lead for multiple other releases, and a key contributor to Gutenberg.<\/li>\n<li>8. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/sc0ttkclark\/\">Scott Kingsley Clark<\/a>, prominent community member for over 15 years, stepped down, <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/core\/2024\/10\/13\/fields-api-team-seeking-new-leadership\/\">leaving a gap in Fields API leadership<\/a>. His <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sc0ttkclark\/wordpress-fields-api\">goodbye notice<\/a> stated he was &#8220;done making excuses for Matt&#8217;s actions and will not associate with core any longer.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>9. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/vcanales\/\">Vicente Canales<\/a>, core contributor.<\/li>\n<li>10. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/hellofromtonya\/\">Tonya Mork<\/a>, core committer, lead for numerous releases, and long-time contributor, <a href=\"https:\/\/xcancel.com\/hellofromTonya\/status\/1846201286246490148\">announced<\/a> she is pausing contributions due to being &#8220;greatly concerned about the well-being &amp; eroding trust of contributors &amp; users.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>11. <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/zackkrida\/\">Zack Krida<\/a>, core and Openverse contributor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The list is not complete. It took less than 30 minutes to come up with. It also doesn&#8217;t include people like <a href=\"https:\/\/xcancel.com\/cdils\/status\/1851045517901357510\">Carrie Dils<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/naoko.blog\/2024\/10\/04\/leaving-automattic\/\">Naoko Takano<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/angelasjin.com\/2024\/10\/21\/on-community-code-of-conducts\/\">Angela Jin<\/a>, and many more who, though they didn&#8217;t contribute code to 6.7, added immeasurable value to what makes WordPress special. A thorough investigation would no doubt reveal even more losses, each one incredibly important to the project.<\/p>\n<p>6.7 has been bittersweet. It is the community who have enabled WordPress&#8217; success over the years. I hope every single person who has left knows that they are actually far <em>more<\/em> important than they think they are.
